# A bird's-eye map with its description

An engraved bird's-eye view of Petrovaradin with a column of German text down the left margin, from the Augsburg engraver Gabriel Bodenehr. The Danube runs across the sheet with a boat bridge crossing to the fortified town, the star-shaped works of the fortress spread on the Syrmian bank and a Turkish redoubt marked on the open ground opposite. The text explains for a German reader that after the Peace of Karlowitz this was the most important frontier place against the Ottomans, and recalls the entrenchments made under General Caprara.
