# An open car waiting outside the Bishop's Palace

An open touring car stands at the kerb in a broad empty street, seen square on from across the roadway. It is a large four seat tourer with the hood folded back, wire spoked wheels, a spare carried at the rear and a long bonnet, and two people sit in it while others stand at the near side with a hand on the body. Behind it the front of the Bishop's Palace fills the frame, its ground floor pierced by paired and grouped round headed windows under moulded heads, its upper storey faced in banded brick with tall arched openings, and a heavy iron railing on a stone plinth running along the pavement. The gateway in the middle of the railing has been dressed for an occasion: its two stone piers are wound with greenery and flowers and a swag of leaves is carried up over the doorway behind. A row of onlookers stands along the railings to the left, several of them children, and the near foreground is empty roadway with the corner of a rendered building cutting into the right of the frame.
