# The Petrovaradin Clock Tower Overlooking the Danube, 1941

The viewer stands beside the fortress clock tower, its two dial faces filling the left half of the frame above a weathered stone shaft. Below, the Danube curves past a riverside park with tree-lined paths and an oval track, the flat outskirts of Novi Sad receding on the far bank. The tower's clock is known for reversing the usual convention, with the long hand marking the hour and the short hand the minute, so boatmen on the river could read the hour from a distance.
