# The Merchant Youths' Society at the consecration of its flag

A wide mounted photograph of a very large group, upwards of two hundred people, ranged in rising rows before the long plain front of a single storey building with round headed windows and a tall arched doorway at the left. Most are men in dark suits with high collars and ties, many wearing rosettes or ribbons, and a great number hold their straw boaters and bowlers in their hands or in their laps. The front rows sit cross legged on the ground with their hats set down before them. At the right stand women and girls in white blouses and headscarves with several small children. Behind the centre of the group three embroidered banners on poles rise above the heads, their lettering showing in Cyrillic, and an oleander in a tub stands at the far left. A photographer's signature is written into the lower right corner of the print, and a long handwritten caption in Cyrillic runs across the mount below the image.
