# Novi Sad

A hand-tinted panoramic postcard looks north across the Danube from a restaurant terrace on the Petrovaradin bank, the terrace tables and white wire chairs standing empty in the foreground between cast-iron lamps. Across the water the city runs from the tall spire of the Name of Mary church to a domed church tower at the right, with post-war blocks and a long white office building among the older roofs, while the city bank below is an open sandy foreshore heaped with stone. At the right a steel lattice bridge carries a bus over the river, the post-war crossing that stood where the Varadin bridge stands now.
