# Hungarian soldiers on the Danube quay below Petrovaradin fortress

Hungarian soldiers and a few passers-by stand on the quay directly under the Petrovaradin escarpment, the long white barracks range of the fortress on the skyline above the loess slope with its scrub and terrace walls. The man at the right is a gendarme, cock feathers rising from his hat and four medals with a whistle chain across his tunic. Behind them the stepped stone embankment runs down to moored river craft, one showing a black funnel with a white band, and railway track crosses the foreground. Uniforms and dress are those of 1941.
