# The empty street after rain

The church at the head of the street is the Franciscan friary church, its tower an octagonal upper stage with volutes carrying a slender spire, and its front and the house walls along the street are dark and streaked. No rails show anywhere in the roadway. A kerb line divides pavement from carriageway, a flowering shrub hangs over a garden wall, and one figure is walking away up the far end.
