# Arms of the free military town of Peterwardein, 1792

A painted panel with the arms of Petrovaradin, its oval border lettered in German Wappen der k.k. Haupt-Grenz-Festung und Freien Militärs Stadt Peterwardein, Den 1. Juni 1792: arms of the imperial-royal frontier fortress and free military town of Peterwardein, 1 June 1792. The quartered shield carries the imperial double-headed eagle, St Peter and five birds, with an armoured arm and sabre on the centre; a knight and a frontier soldier support it over drums, cannonballs and flags. Later accounts date the grant of the arms to 1751. The panel is in the Museum of the City of Novi Sad; this photograph of it in its display case was taken in 2024.
