# The Wrecked Span of the Prince Tomislav Bridge

A span of the road bridge lies collapsed in the Danube, its lattice girders folded into the water with the roadway tipped down after them. Petrovaradin closes the far bank: the long barrack ranges of the fortress stand along the bluff, the clock tower rises behind them, and the lower town runs along the waterfront at the left with its church. The near bank is bare mud and rubble, with a leaning pole and its wires still carried across the gap.
