# The Railway Bridge's Last Standing Span, Petrovaradin, 1941

One lattice-girder span of the railway bridge still stands, reaching from the near bank to a pier before the rest of the crossing gives way to bare piers standing alone in the river. Petrovaradin Fortress crowns the far hill, its long white barracks building and clock tower visible above the ramparts, with the town spread along the riverbank below.
