# Liberty Square with the Plague Column and a Tram, Novi Sad, 1942

An electric tram swings across the main square past the Holy Trinity column, its destination board reading II. RAKOCZI FERENC UT, the wartime name of Jevrejska street. A uniformed man stands in the foreground and a white horse waits in the shafts of a carriage at the right. Behind them runs a long modernist block with a lettered monogram on its roofline. Its ground floor is let to shops, one signed SILESIA, below a cinema banner for Lovagias ügy, the 1937 comedy starring Gyula Kabos, and the building at the right is signed URI DIVAT ARUHAZ, a men's fashion house. The square is Trg slobode, called Ferenc József tér before 1918 and Országzászló tér during the occupation, and the source dates the photograph to 1942.
