# The Royal Free City of Neusatz, by Petar Demetrović

A copperplate panorama of Novi Sad across the Danube. Rafts work the foreground water; a pontoon bridge reaches in from the right toward the Bačka bank, where timber yards and sheds stand on the low ground. The town rises behind, gabled houses under a skyline of eight church towers. Below the plate the sheet is lettered for the royal free city in German and Hungarian, Neusatz and Ujvidék, and credits "Pet. Demetrovits v. Kerestur". Sheets like this were printed inside the travel books carried by journeymen tradesmen: the view served as a keepsake of home. Published research places the plate around 1830, and the Archive of Vojvodina dates its own impression to 1841.
