# Before the Bishop's Palace in Neusatz, by Eduard Frankl

A page from a German illustrated weekly carrying two war photographs, the lower one showing Austro-Hungarian soldiers gathered in front of the Bishop's Palace in Neusatz, with its arcaded facade and the cross of the cathedral yard at the left. The column of text between them describes Syrmia for a German reader: Neusatz as the seat of the Serbian bishop of Bacs, its storming by imperial troops under Jelacic in the revolutionary year 1849, and Peterwardein as the Hungarian Gibraltar where Prince Eugene beat the Turks in 1716.
