# A queue beside tram 51

Car 51 has its number painted on the dash with a white destination board beneath that will not read, a route disc set in the front window and a bow collector on the roof. The rails are set straight into the cobbled setts with no reservation of any kind. Along the shopfronts a man is up a ladder working at an awning frame, the rolled steel shutters on the shop beside him are half down, and the people waiting are in headscarves, flat caps and overcoats, carrying bags and a bundle.
