# Banovina interior

Two identical framed portraits of a man in military uniform hang on the piers of the entrance hall, each with a small lettered plaque beneath it. The occupying administration had put them up in a palace built as the seat of the Yugoslav banovina. Everything else is as the building was finished: marble-clad walls, a chequered black and white floor, steel-framed glazed screens, and a long straight flight of stairs under a brass handrail on close-set balusters.
