# The bridge from the Novi Sad bridgehead in winter

A winter view downriver from the Novi Sad bank, framed by the bare limbs of a large tree that fill the top and left of the frame. The steel bridge runs across the middle distance, a long lattice girder whose top chord rises to a shallow hump over the main span and drops away to either side, carried on piers in the water. To the right of it a low approach stands on a dense row of slender vertical piles, their reflections falling in an unbroken comb across the still water. In the foreground a heavy mass of broken brick and rubble stands on the bank, its facing gone and its core exposed, with a rough path running past it and a line of track or kerbing along the water's edge below. The far bank is flat and leafless.
