# The Name of Mary Church Seen Through an Arcade

The church stands square to the camera across the square, framed by a heavy rusticated arch in the foreground. Its single tower rises through four stages to an open lantern and a tall pierced spire with a cross, a clock face on the stage below, and a rose window sits above the triple portal between two slender pinnacled turrets. Overhead wires cross the sky in front of it. An ornate block with sculpted figures on its gable and a rounded corner bay closes the square on the left, shopfronts and awnings under it, and a gabled building with a shop fascia stands on the right. A few cars are parked at the kerb and people cross the pavement by the portal. In the middle ground a plain rectangular block stands on a low stone base in a grass plot, carrying no figure.
