# Thirty-kreuzer treasury note, Buda, 1849

A small treasury note for thirty pengő krajcár, dated Buda, 1 January 1849, and issued by order of the National Defence Committee, the body under Kossuth that governed Hungary through the war. Two of them made a forint, and the text promises that they will be exchanged for Hungarian banknotes at the treasuries and taken in payment at every public office. Paper change like this stood in for the silver coin that had gone out of circulation.
