# The Old Danube Street

The shopfront is signed three times over for the same photographer, once in Hungarian, once in German beneath it, and once again in Serbian Cyrillic on the board next door, a fair record of how the street's trade lettered itself. The card's own caption is Hungarian only, in the older cz spelling, so the publisher used one language where the shop used three. An electric tram with a bow collector stands in the crowd, which puts the picture between 1911 and 1918.
