# Seal and Coat of Arms of Novi Sad

A manuscript sheet recording the arms granted to the city in 1748. At its centre, ringed by Baroque scrollwork, three silver towers stand on a blue field above the Danube, the middle one taller, with Noah's dove above. The Latin blazon across the top calls them the seal of the city of Petrovaradin, while the caption beneath uses the city's new title, the Free and Royal City of Neoplanta. Maria Theresa's charter of 1 February 1748 raised the settlement then known as Petrovaradinski Šanac to a free royal city, gave it the three names Neoplanta, Újvidék and Neusatz, and in its nineteenth article granted these arms as the city's seal.

The seal of the city of Petrovaradin bears on a blue shield three silver round towers, battlemented at the middle and at the summit, splayed out from their foundations and picked out in mortared stone, with gates closed and windows set and open, beside the bank of the Danube flowing and rippling through a green meadow, ranged in a row, of which the middle is somewhat broader and taller, and above which flies the depicted dove of Noah.
