# A Danube monitor passing Petrovaradin

A small armoured river gunboat runs downstream on open water, throwing a low wake, seen broadside from another vessel. A light awning frame stands over the after deck and a mast forward carries a large cylindrical day mark. Crewmen are ranged along the deck and at the rail, several in peaked caps, one standing alone at the stern beside the ensign staff, and a numeral is painted low on the hull amidships. In the right distance the wooded bluff of Petrovaradin rises with the fortress along its crest and the clock tower standing clear against the sky, and the low silhouette of a bridge crosses the water beneath it.
