# Soldiers on the Wrecked Danube Bridge at Novi Sad, 1942

The viewer stands on the embankment where the demolished road bridge meets the shore. Six soldiers pose on its collapsed steel spans, one astride a bent girder, with ornamental ironwork still visible on the wreckage. A railing lines the embankment in the foreground and a wooded far bank shows across the water. This was the Danube road bridge the Kingdom of Yugoslavia had named Most kraljevica Tomislava, destroyed in April 1941 as German-led forces invaded. The donor dated this print to 1942.
