# A Shopping Street With a Hotel Sign and Passersby, 1941

A long row of houses lines a street laid with tram tracks under a web of overhead wires, the upper windows set in carved frames above a band of ornamental panels. At the near end a sign reading SZALLODA, hotel, projects over a café terrace with iron railings and folding tables, where a man in a white coat stands among passers-by. Shops with awnings fill the rest of the row, two cars stand in the street, a cyclist rides on the left, and a taller corner building rises further down the street. The card is from the first year of the Hungarian occupation, which began in April 1941.
