# Soldiers at the foot of the Holy Trinity column

Four soldiers stand in a row on the stepped base of a monument, posed for the camera. They wear field caps, belted greatcoats and tunics with ammunition pouches and slung equipment, and three carry submachine guns held across the chest or at the hip. The man at the right holds the bridle of a horse whose head and neck fill the corner of the frame, and a fifth figure stands cut off at the left edge with a raised arm. Behind them the pedestal of the monument rises, its face carrying a shaped stone panel with cut lettering giving a date of construction and a second, damaged line below it. Carved swags and lamps stand at the corners of the plinth above. At the right, beyond the horse, the upper storeys of an ornate building with arched windows show against a pale sky.
