# Village on the wooded Danube bank near Novi Sad seen from the river

A village seen from midstream, spread along the Danube bank and climbing a wooded slope behind it. A church with a tall tower and a baroque cupola stands on the high ground among the trees, and low single storey houses with steep tiled roofs line the shore and the lane up the hill. At the water's edge several long flat bottomed barges lie against a landing stage with a gangway to the bank, and a small motor launch is under way downstream to the right. The picture was taken from the deck of a passing steamer, which is how travellers usually saw these villages.
