# Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church on Telep

The newly built Roman Catholic Church of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary rises above the low walls and sparse planting of Telep. Its tall corner bell tower, steep spire, round openings and repeated round-headed windows belong to a Romanesque Revival design by Novi Sad architect Mihajlo Plavec, whose proposal won the competition for the new church. The Catholic community on Telep had been organised as a vicariate in 1927, with parish registers kept from 1928, and the church was completed in 1931. It served a district then inhabited predominantly by Hungarian Catholics and was dedicated to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet. The Telep community became an independent parish only in 1956.
