# Tram in front of the Menrath Palace

A hand-coloured card of Kossuth Lajos utca with an electric tram coming down the middle of the street. The Menrath palace stands at the right, one of the few Art Nouveau buildings in the city, built in 1908 to Lipót Baumhorn's design for the merchant Josef Menrath, with the family furniture business on its ground floor: a shaped gable with an oculus, two storeys of tall arched windows, carved festoons along the cornice and awnings out over the shops. The roadway is still unmade dirt although the rails are laid in it, and a market of canvas-covered carts fills the other side under a baroque bell tower with an onion dome and clock.
