# The Prince Tomislav bridge below the fortress

A steel truss bridge crosses the Danube in three spans on tall masonry piers, its central span rising to a shallow arch and its members standing out dark against a pale sky. Beyond it the escarpment of Petrovaradin rises, with the long white ranges of the fortress and its bastions spread along the top and a church tower showing among trees at the left of the bluff. In the foreground the near bank is fringed with trees, and at the right a group of low sheds and a gantry stand on a wharf at the water's edge behind a wire fence.
