# The shopfronts below the corner balcony

A close view of the ground and first floors of a street corner. A wrought iron balcony on heavy scrolled brackets projects from the first floor, its panels worked in radiating spokes, and six or seven people stand on it looking down into the street, among them an elderly man with a full white beard at the right. Below, the signboard over the shop gives the name Petar Markuš in Cyrillic and Markus Péter in Hungarian. Hats are displayed in the tall glazed cases either side of its door, and a tall ornamental gas lantern on a fluted column stands at the kerb. Further right a second shop shows plates behind glass. A man in a light hat and bow tie stands at the left, an elderly man with a white beard stands in the shop doorway beside a boy, and a woman and several men are ranged along the pavement. Leaves of street trees fill the upper corners.
